Susan Kare created the transitional serif typeface New York Font for the Macintosh computer in 1983, and two famous designers named Charles Bigelow and Kris Holmes upgraded it in 1988. At the beginning of Macintosh operating systems, this typeface was the standard bitmap serif font.
“Ardmore” was the working title at the time. Then it was renamed as New-York-Font. Prior to its first release, it was renamed New York as part of Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs’ “World Class Cities” branding concept.
